“The Lake” Enjoys

Successful Opening

According to a statement from Gibson Wharton, manager, the opening barn dance at The Lake, Washington, was a success. A professional figure - caller rolled off the dances, calling some with iwhich the dancers were not too familiar and they had to work to keep up with him.

Reports state that the dance floor, a pavilion on the edge of the water, proved ample in size and furnished comfortable space for the square dancers. One fellow, stating, he was too warm, took a running dive from the dance floor flat into the lake. He seemed slightly chagrined when the water at that spot proved to be _only two feet deep, but he waded about in the mud to cool off. No one has been able to find out the name of the fellow; he Vas not local and no one knew him; and there were a few whispers that probably it was a putup job and he had been hired to jump in the lake as entertainment. There had been some previous discussion that the advertisements should read: “If you don’t want to dance, you can jump in The Lake!”

The dapce Saturday night was cooled off by the weather and the crowd was small. Additional dances will be held this Friday and Saturday, and also^ Monday night.
