Jenkins Hollow News
Considerable water has gone over the dam in Jenkins Hollow during recent months, better roads, new bridges, painted Jiouses, new homes, permanent residents, improvements of, homes and grounds, etc.
Mr. ^nd Mrs. J. C. Carter, the pioneers in establishing the Jenkins Hollow Colorfy and who have been spending weekends and vacation there for three years, are now making it their permanent home. Mr. Carter, an official of the Surgeon General’s office of the Department of Defense in v Washington,, has retired and is now established as a full time resident of Rappahannock County. He is continuing to add to his already substantial collection of high-grade plants and fruit trees and will make further improvements to his house.
Hubert Jenkins and Roy Jenkins, on either side of Mr. Carter, have improved their homes by the addition of new siding, and fresh paint. Water is also being piped into their homes, following the addition of electricity and clectricial appliances. The Ennis Jenkins home has also’ been given a coat of paint, greatly improving the appearance.
Mr. ' and Mrs. Frank Hier, who purchased “Peaceful Valley” from S. E. Henmg ln Fetrruary. have^been spending their weekends at their new home since that time and have carried forward the improvements in both the home and the grounds. Mr. Hier continues as a trail judge for the Federal Trade Commission, covering a large part of the United States. Another permanent resident Js T7 J. Pillar with Mrs. Pillar and their daughter, Peggy. Mr. Pillar has retired from his position as a bank official in Norfolk and is adding three rooms to their new home near the Hazel River. Mr. and Mrs. Pillar have opened an attractive antique shop in the old Jimmy Atkins store in Sperryville. Peggy plans to attend school in Rappahannock County this fall.
