BAPTIST W. M. S. On last Friday afternoon the Womans Missionary Society of the Reynolds -Memorial Baptist Church met at “Sunstroke Manor,” the home of Mrs. H. B. Winfrey with nine members and one visitor present. A very interesting program from the subject“Missionary Commands of Jesus” was presented by Mrs. Winfrey with Mrs. C.H.H. Branch, Mrs. C. E. Johnson, Mrs. James Atkins and Mrs. R. E. Wood taking parts. At the conclusion of the meeting a social hour was spent and the hostess served refreshments.

Farm Woodlands ..

During the year 1951, 4,288,000 board feet of timber with a stumpage value of approximately $120,00 was marked and estimated for harvesting by the Virginia Forest Service in Rappahannock County. Some 30 landowners in the county availed themselves of the timber service program offered by the Forest Service with foresters making timberland examinations and recommendations for proper forest management on some 2,188 acres of private timber holdings.

The Virginia Forest Service, •through its timber management program, provides forestry assistance to the individual landowner so that his timberlands may be managed to produce the greatest volume of timber of the best species possible in the shortest period of time. At the landowner’s request, a trained forester will make a preliminary examination of an owners timber holdings, advise him on the correct methods of managing it, and submit a detailed renprt, together with recommendations, on his findings. This .is free, there is no charge for a timberland examination.
