For Commonwealth Attorney

William F. Moffett, Jr., and John W. Price, Jr., are the two candidates for the office of Commonwealth Attorney, with the appointment of Rayner V; Snead as judge for the 26th district.

The appointment will be for the unexpired term of three yeears, since R. V. Snead was elected Commonwealth Attorney for a four-year term November, 1951. It falls to Mr. Snead, as judge, to appoint his successor in the office of Commonwealth Attorney.

William F. Moffett, Jr., 32, is at present Probation and Parole Officer for the 11th Parole District, comprising eight northern Virginia counties. Son of a former Rappahannock county Commonwealth Attorney, “Billy” Moffett lives with his wife, the former Miss Jean Buxton, their three children, Frank, Paige, and Jean, and his mother, Mrs. Louemma Carter Moffett, in Washington.

Mr. Moffett was graduated with a B.A. degree from Washington A Lee in June 1942. Entering the Coast Guard, 1942, he was commissioned ensign and served as commander of a coast guard vessel taking part in the Philippine and New Guinea landings. He served the duration of World War II and was discharged a lieutenant. Returning to Washington & Lee, Mr. Moffett received his B. L. degree in 1947 and was admitted to the bar the same year. He began his practice of law in Rappahannock in 1947, and until his appointment as parole officer last year, was also occupied as fanner and onehardist.

John W. Price, Jr., 29, lives in Washington with his mother, Mrs. Louise Miller Price. He was at Hampden-Sydney when called to the army. Following overseas serice with the army engineers in World War II, Mr. Price went to work in Washington, D.C., and began studying law at National Law School. He was working at construction* work in Fauquier county when he passed his state bar examinations last winter. At present, he is beginning his law practice in the County.
