Somebody told me that today is Byron's birthday. Somebody also told me that you had to know your company before you pronounced “Don Juan,” also. It's strange how you can remember all these, foolish items people have told you, and yet you can forget to pick up the shoes from the repair shop, forget to pay the telephone bill, or forget the madam’s birthday.

1 heard a dessertation the other day on how all the vile literature of the modern day was corrupting the youth. I couldn’t get too excited oyer it. I recall my own younger days. Some of the older kids at school were talking in exciting whispers About a “dirty” book. I liked-to broke my neck until I could get the book and sneak off and hide to read it. Now, at that age my knowledge of “dirty” words was the four-lettered variety scrawled with chalk by the first-graders on sidewalks and the walls of the toilet. I sat in hiding and read the book—reportedly “dirty.” I hunted and hunted. 'Couldn’t find a single dirty word in it; was the dumbest book I’d ever seenl It had a whole lot of silly hugging and kissing in kt
That was a bitter lesmn to my young soul. I lost faith in the older kids’ opinions of what was good reading 1
To this day I can’t get too worked up over reports on “corrupting the children with vile literature.” Their minds are usually too clean for the filth to make any impression,
