Heading the list of major new features in the Model 66 is the exclusive pick-up and feeding action which combines compactness and high capacity.
Other major features include “bird’s-eye” visibility which lets the operator look over the 4-foot high baler to watch pick-up, tying and baling action without moving from the tractor seat.
Low center of gravity and wide wheel tread—7'5"—also combine to give the greatest possible stability on hilly hay-fields. Dual wheels, available as optional equipment, can be mounted alongside standard wheels for extra tread in soft ground.
Secret of the high capacity is the pre-compression baling action built into the Model 66. Here's how it works to produce up to six bales a minute, seven tons an hour. The 472-inch Wide pick-up spring; supported to “float” over the ground, handles full-size windrows. An auxiliary wheel guides the pick-up over field contours to make a “clean sweep”. And adjustable windguards hold the hay to the power-driven pick-up for fast feeding.
The feeding arrangement keeps a positive pressure on the hay regardless of the size or density of the windrow. Reaching the allsteel feeder* which has a rigid, open-end auger and a springsupported floating bottom, the hay is moved quickly and evenly into the special pre-compression chamber.
Then the new pre-compression action takes over. A special plunger compresses the hay before it reaches the wadboard. Then the wadboard, built in horizontally to add to the machine's compactness, works on pre-eompressed instead of loose hay. This speeds up the baling action and results in higher capacity and firmer bales. ' Weighing approximately 2500 pounds and powered' by a 2-cylinder engine the Model 66 produces l bales of sliced hay measuring 14” by 18” and adjustable in length to 30”, 36” or 42’.
