“Formal balance may be the easiest to obtain, but it is not necessarily the most interesting. So if you want to try your hand at informal balance just remember that a picture hung off-center must have something to balance it ; visually, such as a lamp, plant, or other accessory. Hang pictures so they lie flat against the wall. To get them to lie flat, fasten the wire about one-third down from the top and stretch it fairly tight across the back of the picture so- the- wire doeen’t ehow. Use regular picture wire and regular picture hooks because, with these, the nail goes through the hook at an angle and the weight actually helps to support the picture. “Remember that pictures are chosen for your home to enhance the beauty of it. So make the best use of your pictures by hanging them where they will do the best decorating job,” says Mrs. Payne.
