The approach of the new school year has prompted Dr. James J. Dunne, Director, Bureau of Maternal and Child Health, Virginia State Department of Health to urge all parents to be thoroughly aware of the physical status of their children entering school for the first time. “It is our hope that most of these children have been examined during the spring and early summer and any defects that may have been found will have been corrected,” said Dr. Dunne. For those children who have not had the benefit and advantage of such an examination Dr. Dunne urges parents to take their child to their family physician or dentist, or, where this cannot be done, to the local health department for a complete preschool examine tion. “It is essential that vision, he aring, heart, posture, weight and teeth be checked, he said, “and the doctor and dentist will appreciate discussing at the time of the ex amination, any questions or concerns that the parent may have regarding the child’s health.” Virginia State law requires that all children show evi
