Sperryville on Route 522. Charles Louis Lillard of Alexandria lost control of his vehicle, ran off the right of the highway, back across the road down a bank and into a fence on the J. W. Fletcher farm. Lillard sustained a fractured shoulder, abrasions of the face and fractured ribs. No charges were made due to the condition of the road.
Slate Mills and
Novum Baptism
As the result of the recent revivals held in the Novum and Slate Mills Baptist Churches sixteen candidates were baptized at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 15 at the Clan Ross Lake near Haywood. About one hundred persons were present to witness the Rev. Dott Bryan, pastor of the Novum and Slate Mills Churches, baptize the group. Those baptized for Slate Mills were John W. Minnls, Jr. of Culpeper, Stephen Greer\ Mark, Philip and Eddie Paul Johnson. Novum candidates were Miss Nancy Welch of Culpeper, Miss Patricia Brown, Mr. and Mrs. George Tanner and son Mike, Mrs. Shirley Wise and son Jesse and Junior, Glen and Roger Ryder. Those joining the Novum church by letter were Mr. and Mrs. Preston Johnson of New Salem, Mrs. Alex Aylor and P. W. Wise of Novum.
