Has Fair Half-Year
Despite a sluggish March and June, the Virginia travel industry posted a fair first half in 1965 when compared with the first half of 1964, Irby N. Hollans Jr., director of travel development of the Virginia State Chamber of Commerce, said today. In both March and June most areas of the industry experienced a decline when compared with the same months in 1964, he said. The March fall was due to a late Easter this year since Easter, 1964 was in March. Hollans said the sluggish June was attributed by state travel spokesmen largely to "the stock markep Viet Nam, the general unsettled world situation, the Interstate Highway System and its changing travel patterns and cold, wet mid-month weather.* The remaining four months of the six-month period were generally good when compared vyth the same months in 1964. Comparing the entire onehalf year period the 27 indices in the State Chamber’s “Monthly Travel Barometer” showed
