Surveilance was intensified Friday night with the aid of Fulpeper’s Sheriff’s department and some civilians in addition to officers already at work. Kvery highway and byway was being patrolled. Taylor worked his way to the Blackwater area on Route 522 where he crouched in the ditch to survey traffic. After checking a number of passing vehicles, none of which were police cars, he stepped onto the highway and attempted to hitch a ride by the next motorist. This motorist, however, turned out to be Trooper Frank Lasley patrolling that area in search of the escapee. Taylor was returned to the Culpeper camp where he was serving five years for burglary, three offenses. He is from Norfolk.

Virginia Sales Tax
In the event that a state sales tax bill clears the committee during the next General Assembly, Delegate Tom Frost 6tated at Friday’s meeting of the Rappahannock Board of Supervisors that he would vote for it IF. . .at least 50% of the tax was returned to the counties; if there was relief from personal property tax and merchant’s licenses. The Rappahannock Board had previously voted to endorse a sales tax, though not unani-, mouly, and expressed to Mr. Forst that they were in favor) of it if it was distributed on a per capita basis. That, they felt, was the only manner in which Rappahannock would get its fair share since there are no large local shopping areas here and much of Rappahan•ock’f reygftitfc.ifr spent side of the county.
Mr. D. S. Butler, Resident Engineer with the Department of Highways, reported that a flashing traffic light would be installed at the intersection of Routes 522 and 1001 on the sharp curve in Sperryville. He also asked for a resolution for the disposition of some small sections of Route 618 where the road has been straightened. After tabling a request for the past Two meetings from the Soil and Water Conservation office for financial assistance in the amount $300 for a part time secretary the Board voted against this. The sub-division ordinance was discussed at length and points were taken into consideration for amending at a [later meeting.
