Attend Zone Meeting
Eight members of Amissville Ruritan Club attended a zone meeting held Friday at Holiday Inn near Fredericksburg. They were Nelson Burner, T. C. Barron, Eddie J. Hitt, Gilbert Lawrence, Gene Dodson, Edward Lawrence, Ralph Hitt and Talmadge Hitt. The local club will hold Ladies Night when they meet next Wednesday at Amissville Fire Hall and a special program is planned.
Madison Market Completes Sales
The Madison Livestock Market, Inc. completed its fourth and final fall feeder calf sale, on Friday with 1200 head passing through the arena. Top price was $27.50 with total sales of about $125,000. Manager Doug Tucker reports many local buyers on hand along with others from out of the state. The four sales involved more than 5,200 head with receipts in excess of $600,000.
Amissville WSCS Meets
The W.S.C.S. of Amissville Methodist Church held its regular meeting Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Arthur Pullen with Mrs. Lewis Smith as cohostess. Fourteen members were present to study the lesson “The Scope of Drop-out Problems.*
Hoak Appointed to Shenandoah Park Staff
Appointment of Dale H. Hoak of Luray to the position of civil engineer on the staff of Shenandoah National Park was announced today by Superintendent R. Taylor Hoskins. Hoskins said Hoak had been selected as the best-qualified applicant for the position, which will be in the maintenance and engineering division of the Park. The latter is headed by Jerry A. Eubanks. Hoak, a native of Luiay, attended the Luray High School and following his graduation in 1960 entered Bridgewater College where he was a student for more than two years before transferring to the Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He received his degree in civil engineering from the latter earlier this year. At the time of his appointment to the Shenandoah staff, Hoak was employed by the Virginia Department of Highways. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the local Masonic Lodge.
