Horseshoe Farm
The sale of nearly 500acres of the old Horseshoe Farm to Mr. and Mrs. Jack J. Dwyer, Washington attorneys who a Iso own the Flintridge Farm and the old Cooksie Farm near Flint Hill, was announced this week. The new acquisition gives the Dwyers a total of 1500 acres in the county. It was bought from the Alaska 'Paving Company of which Robert S. Schaeffer is President, and whose father owns the old Lewis Farm on U. S. 211 & 522 just west of Washington, Virginia. All three farm sales to the Dwyers were handled by Edward A. Harris & Associates of Huntly. The brokeragefirm also negotiated the original sale of Horseshoe Farm, then more than 900 acres, by the Janneys of Fredericksburg to William M. Carrigan, Jr., who subsequently resold it. It was later divided. The latest sale of approximately 500 acres, lying south of the Fodderstack Road about two and a half miles east of Washington, includes a small old stone house and a large frame dwelling occupied in recent years by a farm foreman, as well as a log cabin. The Dwyers’ Flintridge Farm south of Flint Hill adjoins the Dwyers’ newestfarm along a mountain ridge, giving them a holding of about 1000 acres in one tract, with extensive frontage both on U. S. 522 in the Flint Hill area and on the Fodderstack Road between Flint Hill and Washington.
They bought the old Cooksie Farm on State Road 647 east of Flint Hill several years ago from William and FloLaBille.
