The Bulletin mentions the Arlington County information program on power mowers that was followed by a decrease in treatment of mower injuries in the community hospitals there. The publication offers a series of safety suggestions in line with American Standards Association recommendations. In condensed form, these include:
1. Know your controls. 2. Make sure the lawn is clear of sticks, stones, wire and debris. 3. Never add fuel to a running engine. 4. Keep children and pets away. 5. Disengage all blade and drive clutches before starting on units so equipped. 6. Start the engine carefully. 7. Do not operate the engine where carbon monoxide fumes can collect. 8. Stop the engine whenever you leave the mowei; 9. Always properly maintain the mower. 10. Stop the engine before crossing drives, walks or roads. 11. Do not allow minors or neighbors to operate the mower without instruction. 12. On slopes or wet grass, be careful of footing.
13. Never pull the mower toward you. 14. Stop the engine and disconnect spark wire before checking the mower. 15. Never use a plug-in electric mower in rain or wet grass. 16. Be careful when using a riding mower on slopes. 17. Never leave a starter in cocked position. 18. Do not overspeed the engine.
Laura Parrish Graduates From Baldwin School
Miss Laura L. Parrish, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac L. Parrish, Thornton River Farms, Viewtown gradu ates from The Baldwin School Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania at commencement exercises on Saturday, June 8. She will enter Mount Vernon Junior College in the fall. In her senior year at Baldwin she was a member of the Religious Planning Committee for the school. She also served as a volunteer tutor in a com munity program to aid disadvantaged children from nearby Philadelphia.
