Junior members of the Northern Virginia Fox Hunters Association held their own Bench Show and Field Trial last week.
People-wise the event, held at the Oliver Durants’, was a dead heat. Just which had the best time, the oldsters of the youngsters, no one could tell. Most felt it to be a photo-finish but no one had a good-t i m emeasuring camera. Twenty-five youngsters entered 48 hounds (entries were limited to 2 each). Twelve participated in the Bench Show judged by George Anglin of Washington, D. C. All age and Derby hounds, both sexes, were shown together. For some exhibitors it was a tip-toeing stretch to reach their hounds when on the bench. At one point Jerry Smith (Gene’s youngest) was having trouble getting his hound to stand quietly so he gave its tail a jerk. Hound fell off the bench onto Jerry. Both went down but neither were harmed!
