Livestock Survey
The Post Office Department announced today that Rural Mail Carriers and Star Route Contractors will begin distributing June 1, 1969 Livestock Survey card$, to farmer-patrons on their routes about May 21.
Your Post Office assists the Department of Agriculture each year in making this and two other surveys.
Livestock cards returned by farmers to their carriers will be mailed direct to the Virginia Crop Reporting Service in Richmond. Information from each card will be combined with other reports to give indications of changes in livestock on farms in the Old Dominion. Using these facts, estimates will be made of the number of cattle and calves, and hogs and pigs on Virginia farms as of June 1. In addition, estimates of the number of milk cows, the calf crop, spring sows farrowed and pigs saved, and plans for fall farrowing will be determined from information obtained from the June 1 Livestock Survey.
So, next week if you find in your mailbox a card titled “Livestock Survey, June 1, 1969, don’t put it aside. It was placed there by your carrier. Postmasters of the county urge that you fill out the card and return it to your carrier as soon as possible. It is important that you return the card for your farm since only a given number of farms will receive these cards and your community will be represented according to the number of cards returned.
