Lionel burgess said that the standards of the United States of America Standards Institute were used and that all manufacturers and retailers have been so advised.

The delay until July 1 foi enforcement, Colonel Burgess said, should give ample time to manufacturers for securing approval of their equipment and marketing it.

Colonel Burgess stated further that face protection is most necessary to the operator of a motorcycle since dust, insects or any foreign matter in the eyes can cause an operator to lose control of his motorcycle and injure not only himself but someone else. Here, Colonel Burgess said an approved face shield could be used in place of glasses or goggles.

All official motorcycle inspection stations have been supplied with copies of these standards and Colonel Burgess said that prospective purchasers having any doubt as to whether equipment is approved should consult any member of the State Police.
