Cyclist Protection
Richmond, Va. . . . Colonel H. W. Burgess, Superintendent of State Police, announced today that in accordance with the provisions of Section 46.1-172 of the Code of Virginia, standards for windshields, glasses and goggles required to be used by motorcyclists have been established and the law requiring their use will be enforced as of July 1, 1969.
The 1968 General Assembly amended this law to provide that anyone operating a motorcycle must wear either glasses or goggles of an approved type or have the motorcycle equipped with a windshield, also of an approved type. The Superintendent of State Police was directed to establish standards of approval within one year of the law’s enactment. This was accomplished April 1, 1969, after a public hearing.
