More Virginians Receive USDA Food
Atlanta, Ga. — U.S. Department of Agriculture food programs aided 76,863 needy persons in Virginia during March. 5,141 persons more than the number that received food assistance in February.
USDA’s Consumer and Marketing Service said that 27,988 persons in 23 counties and 5 cities took part in its food stamp program and received $202,382 in bonus coupons.
C&MS’ family food distribution program aided 48,875 persons in 38 counties and 2 cities. The foods distributed had an estimated retail value ol $538,000 and included dairy products, canned and dried fruits and vegetables, canned meat oi poultry, grain and cereal products, as well as other items such as peanut butter and scrambled egg mix.
