With less than 2 months yet to go in the 1968-69 hunting license period it appears that both' accidents and fatalities will be more than 10'; below last year’s total, reports (lame Commission Safety Officer J. N. Kerrick. To date, 15 persons have been injured and 6 killed since July 1, 1968.
In 6 cases involving 4 injuries and 2 deaths, the shots were self-inflicted. In only 7 cases, none of them fatal, was the victim out of sight of the shooter. Most mishaps occurred at distances of 50 yards or less in light to open cover with clear visibility. Shotguns were involved in 27 accidents, four of which were fatal Only one mishap involved a handgun. Small game hunters were victims of 27 hunting accidents while big game hunters were involved in 11.
Open House Set at
Piedmont Voc School
Piedmont Vocational School will be host at an Open House, Sunday, May 25, from 1-5 p.m.. The school began operations in; July, 1968 and offers technical and vocational training for students from Culpeper, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock Counties
Courses include carpentry, co semiology, data processing, drafting, electricity and electronics, masonry, motor mechanics and practical nursing, enrollment this year includes 179 high school students while 200 adults were registered in evening courses, consisting of shorthand, typing, art, bookkeeping and motor mechanics. Next year the day enrollment will double with additional courses in metal clusters, power mechanics, sewing and food services. Capital outlay exceeds $200,000 with the latest equipment.
