The Budget for Rappahannock County for the fiscal year beginning July 1 was the primary business of the Board of Supervisors at its June meeting held Friday. The $848,188 budget as proposed and advertised was not adopted, and a special meeting was held yesterday morning to complete this business. Other aspects of the meeting included lengthy discussion of the county dumping project, night meetings of the Board and more space for the local welfare system.
A motion for the reduction of the school funds in the budget by $2,095 made by Supervisor Foster was rejected by the group. However, a motion made by Mrs. Betty Coates for the County Clerk’s salary for work as clerk of the Board to be set at $1,500 ended in a tie vote. The salary had been set last year at $2,400 and she was advocating a reduction of some $900. The salary over the years had been only $150 a year and a state revision on this matter occurred last year permitting the increase.
