the process of growing, trees take in carbon dioxide, a poisonous gas, from the air and give off pure oxygen, so necessary for human life. ACP, by sharing the cost of forestry practices, encourages farmers to plant trees and to carry out good timber stands and improvement practices. In Virginia during the past 10 years, about 95 million pine seedlings have been planted under the ACP.
Who benefits from ACP? “The butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker,...” and all of the more than 200 million people in this country plus the generations to come.
Most of what we eat comes from the soil or comes from fowl or animals depending on the soil. Much of our clothing comes from plants of the soil or from animals existing on the soil. The lumber for our homes and for our furniture comes from trees depending on the soil. Thus, the soil is our very lifeblood. We need it to eat, to be clothed and to be housed. We need the soil to live - the soil needs conservation to live. Yes, everyone benefits from ACP.
