Dove Season Opens

Noon this Saturday, September 5, will mark the beginning of Virginia’s dove season. This year’s daily limit is again 18. Legal shooting hours as in past years will be from 12 noon until official sunset. Hunters may start shooting at noon local time, or daylight savings time ih our case, and may hunt until official sunset standard time, That means adding one hour to standard time sunset. Hunters actually get an extra hour while daylight saving time is in effect. Shooting hours this Saturday will be from noon until 7:37 p.m. Eastern Daylight time.
Copies of the dove regulations which includes a sunrise and sunset timetable, are available at the clerk’s office and at some stores and service stations around the county. In using this timetable, add one hour for daylight savings time plus 4 minutes for the difference between here and Richmond. If you use a Washington paper for time, you can also add 3 or 4 minutes.
Doves seem to be plentiful but spread out. With very little corn cut In Rappahannock, there are probably very few concentrations. I passed one of the few fields which have been chopped; early last Saturday
