The war brought many changes. Both L. J. Kilby and Roy Leake were called into military service; the export business was closed; the Government fixed prices; most laborers were away at war. But people always like apples and the Armed Services bought fresh fruit for their men. Mr. C. E. Johnson, Jr., general manager of Rappahannock Fruit Growers, with the help of Mr. Charlie Estes and a few other hard working and faithful people kept the business operating. . „ _
After the war, L. J. Kilby and Roy Leake returned to the Cold Storage. When Mr. Leake left the Cold Storage to accept anothei position in 1966, he had already been at the Cold Storage for 23 years.
