The first half of our dove season will run until Oct. 31. The second part of the split season is from December 21, through January 2. Virginia’s duck and goose season will open at the same lime this year. That will be November 14. Duck season extends through January 2 and goose season through January 22. A few squirrel hunters took to the woods in Madison County this past Tuesday. A cool, clear day set the proper atmosphere Tuesday morning but the squirrels were scarce. Except in a few spots there seems to be almost no squirrels, little mast and even where there is mast to be found, very little “cutting”. Madison’s season will run through the 15th of this month. Rappahannock will have an early season from the 1st through the 14th of October on squirrels. Coon hunters in Culpeper County can run “ringtail” again. The season there opened September 1 and will stay in until the end of March. Madison’s coon season opens October 1, and Rappahannock’s October 15. Get your license, get permission and get outdoors. There’s a grand time of the year just around the corner.
