The amount of money flowing into Rappahannock County each month in the form of Federal retirement pensions has increased considerably in the last few years.

According to the official figures covering the past year, retirement and disability payments are now going to 9.6 persons in the local area, as compared with 615 foui years ago.
Most of them are retired workers or their widows, children and parents. The others are disabled workers and their dependents.
The findings are contained in the annual report of the Social Security Administration. It lists, for every county in the United States, the number of people on the retirement rolls and the payments to them, as of the beginning of this year.
Nationally, there are more than 25 million men, women and children receiving benefits, as against less than 21 million in 1965. They are collecting nearly $27 billion a year.
