Social security benefits were being paid to residents of Rappahannock County at a rate of $71,000 a month at the close of 1970, Mrs. Hazel F. Crumpton, social security district manager in Winchester, said today. A benefit increase signed into law by President Nixon on March 17 raised the monthly rate of payment by 10 percent for most of the 921 social security beneficiaries, in Rappahannock County, she added. A small number of beneficiaries over age 72 who are not receiving regular sodaFsecurity cash benefits got a 5 percent increase.
