Colonel Burgess stated that this is the only such gallery in existence and that the portraits of two additional men are now being painted. The one to be unveiled is of Trooper Warren Y. Harless who was shot to death in 1968 while assisting the Sheriff of Lee County in arresting a felon. It was painted by Eloise W. Atkinson, a Richmond artist.
Along with the unveiling ceremony, there will be the graduation of 38 troopers after 20 weeks of instruction and a minimum of a month’s field training.
Ceremonies begin at 10 a.m. at State Police Headquarters on Route 60, just west of Richmond. Colonel Burgess said that the public is cordially invited to attend.
