Unveiling Portrait
At Police Gallary
Richmond, Va. - The 26th portrait for the State Police Memorial Art Gallery will be unveiled at the graduation exercises of the Department’s 52nd Basic Training School in Richmond the morning of June 18, Colonel H. W. Burgess, State Police Superintendent, announced today.
The portraits are of members of the Department who were killed in the line of duty or in action during World War II and were painted on a voluntary basis by prominent Virginia artists. Thirteen of the men were killed in traffic crashes, six were shot to death making arrests, three were killed in action in the War, two were killed in a plane crash while on an errand of mercy, one was killed attempting td subdue a runaway horse at thd fair, and one died of exposure resulting from an all night manhunt.
