counties reporting blight, infection is confined to volunteer seedlings. In those few instances where blight has been identified on corn planted this spring, plant pathologists indicate infection was probably caused by spores from local debris or as a result of onfarm shelling operations. In Illinois it appears the blight is spreading from volunteer plants to fields. Thus far the blight has been found only on corn planted with Trcytoplasm or blend seed and has not been found in significant amount in fields planted to resistant seed. To date I have not found any evidence of blight in Rappahannock. If you suspect any in your field, please give me a call.
