Fiscal-Calendar Year
Rep. J. Kenneth Robinson has joined in Congressional sponsorship of a bill to provide that the fiscal year of the Federal Government coincide with the calendar year.
The federal fiscal year now begins on July 1.
“In recent years, very few appropriation bills have cleared Congress prior to the start of the fiscal year to which they applied," the 7 th District Congressman noted, “and it seems logical to recognize that Congress has been taking a full year' to act on many of these bills.”
“In these circumstances, making the fiscal year coincide with the next calendar year would facilitate planning by State and local budgetary officers working on a calendar-year basis, who must take into account the prospective availability of various federal fund allocations,” he said.
(Congress recently received the Present’s budget for the fjgcgi year beginning July 1,1971.)
