Pristou said that guidelines from other states where fungicides have been used note (hat Difhane M-45 and Manzate 200 are the only two chemicals which have clearance for southern com leaf blight control. These chemicals should be applied at the beginning of tasseling or as soon as the disease is present. They should be applied at seven to ten-day intervals, he said. Application may be done by airplane spraying or with “high boys” if the com is not too tall. In aerial application, 1V-. pounds of chemical in four to five gallons of water, with a spreader sticker added, is necessary. With ground equipment, lVfe pounds in at least 40 gallons of water, with a spreader sticker added, should be used. Two to four nozzles should be placed on each side, depending on com height, for maximum coverage. One nozzle over the row is also required, Pristou said.

The extension specialist noted that uniform coverage of the top half of the plant is essential for control.
