Living alone has become a modern-day development in Rappahannock County. Many unattached men and women in the local area, who would have had no alternative in former years but to reside with relatives or friends, have now found it possible to support themselves and have their own living quarters.
Included in this unattached group are young people and older people who are unmarried as well as divorced and widowed persons who have remained single. As a result of the living alone trend among this group, the number of dwelling units in Rappahannock County that are occupied by only one person has risen considerably in the last ten years.
