As most of our corn is in the early tasseling stage, hopefully with good weather conditions, it will reach maturity without too much damage. As predicted there is a lot of variation from field to field depending on the variety and the degree of susceptability.
A lot of calls have been coming in on the Japanese beetle. Sevin (Carbaryl) is still the recommended spray for use in the vegetable garden and on shrubs around the house. Mix two tablespoons of Sevin 50 percent Wettable Powder per gallon of water. This spray is safe to apply to the newly emerging sweet corn silk. Recommended waiting period on corn from time of application to harvest is one day.

The annual board meeting of the Fauquier Chapter, American Red Cross which also serves Ifeippahannock was held Wednesday, July 14 in Warrenton. Seven new board members were elected to serve until 1974. They are Mrs. Richard Tuma of Washington, Va.; Miss Phyllis Bondi of Markham; Mrs. Erna Henry, Catlett; Mrs. Woodrow Williams, Marshall; Mrs. E. Shirley Turner of The Plains; William E.
