Of the 67 establishments in Rappahannock County that have one or more employees, a breakdown shows that 41 of them have from one to three on their payrolls, that 13 have from four to seven and 12 from eight to nineteen. Although firms of long standing make up the bulk of the local business community, each year sees some additional ones springing up as enterprising people, with an urge to be on their own, embark upon new ventures.

Because of higher wage scales, the overall payroll of business establishments in the local area has been going up, reaching a total in the past year of $2,576,000.
