vngima s private and industrial tree farmers proved once again that trees are a renewable resource by planting some 56.9 million of them in the Old Dominion during the 1971 planting season. This was the second highest number of tress planted for reforestation purposes in any one year in Virginia, the highest being last year’s 58.2 million ^seedlings. The actual number of trees planted was 56,882,810. This 1971 figure brings the total for Virginia s 55 year reforestation history up to more than 784 million seedlings. Total planted in Rappahannock was 46,300. Using an average of 750 seedlings per acre, the 56.9 million planted this year represents the reforestation of approximately 76,000 acres of idle agricultural or cutove^voodland. This acreage is
