Of the 56.9 million seedlings planted, 52.3 were loblolly pine. White pine accounted for 2.8 million of the total, followed by black locust with some 656 thousand, planted mostly by mining companies. Virginia pine made up 541 thousand. During the past year, farmers and other individual landowners planted 26,007,840 tree seedlings on their lands -roughly 46 percent of the total.
