was not as close a game. The Panthers played an excellent defensive game with Harry Frye getting 17 rebounds. In the opening minutes of the game the Panthers took the lead, but the Bulldogs were fast to catch up. The quarter scores were as follows: First: Rapp. - 12; Luray - 6. Second: Rapp. - 22; Luray - 26. Third: Rapp. - 22; Luray - 40. Fourth: Rapp. - 32; Luray - 56. Although the first game of the season ended in defeat, Rappahannock won’t give up hope. Luray left chanting “We’re No. 1”, but I heard a Rappahannock fan say “We may not be number one, but we try harder!” Mr. Ellis, coach of the Panther Team, says that the team is in a stage of rebuilding, and although the team has not been winning, this year might bring about a change. The Panthers’ next game will be at Strasburg on December 10, at 6:30 p.m. Let’s all go to the game and show the team we’re behind them 100%!
OBITUARIES
Rufus Jenkins
Rufus Jenkins, 58, of Mitchells died November 30, 1971 at Culpeper Memorial Hospital, following a sudden illness. He was employed by a construction company in Mitchells.
A native of Rappahannock County, he was the son of the late Robert Elwood and Gertrude Burke Jenkins. He is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Emma Hannah of Fredericksburg, Mrs. Lester Curtis of Remington, Mrs. Willie Jenkins of Culpeper and Mrs. Clinton Jenkins of Mitchells; and four brothers, Wade of Fredericksburg, Robert of Amissville, Boot and James A,., both of Elk wood.
A funeral service was held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Geest Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Ethel V. Harrington of Sperryville.
