AS THE local clearinghouse for federal grants, the RappahannockRapidan Planning District Commission Thursday approved public funding for a number of private historical renovation projects, as well as the usual sewer and “social projects.” ; A few of the Commissioners representing Fauquier, Rappahannock, Culpeper, Orange and Madison Counties objected to the use of up to $87,000 of Virginia Historic Landmarks Commission funds for the commercial renovation of the A.P. Hill Boyhood Home in Culpeper.
Culpeper County Planning Commissioner Fred Buswell voted against the grant application to Culpeper-Orange entrepreneur Angus Green. After the meeting, Orange Supervisors Richard Sanford and Elbert Brown said they would have voted against Green’s grant application if it had not been grouped with renovation grants for the Little Fork Church in Jefferston and the Exchange Hotel in Gordons ville.
