The Republican incumbent from the Seventh Congressional District, J. Kenneth Robinson, is busy proclaiming on the eve of the election that “we must cut Federal spending until it hurts.” Where has this man been for the last four years? Why hasn’t he been practicing what he is now preaching?
In the four years that this incumbent has been in office, Federal spending and the national debt have soared to unprecedented heights. His own voting record discloses that he has been supportive of enormous wasteful expenditures while opposing smaller essential needs of the nation. For instance:
1. Robinson voted IN FAVOR of one BILLION dollars for arms to an aggressive Turkey but voted AGAINST one MILLION for health, education and welfare.
2. Robinson voted for a TEN MILLION dollar appropriation “for cotton promotion and research” but voted AGAINST emergency disaster loans to hard-pressed farmers at one per cent interest.
3. Rohinson deplores wasteful foreign aid but he voted FOR the Russian wheat deal that cost taxpayers 300 MILLION dollars and raised food prices.
4. Robinson voted FOR the expenditure of more than A BILLION dollars in military aid to the repressive police state government of South Vietnam.
5. At a time of energy shortages here Robinson voted FOR the export of oil products for military use in Indochina.
