after reporting, correctly, that I have not supported President Ford’s income surtax plan, the following:
“Cutting national spending and business incentives, would be better, he said.”
A casual reading of the sentence might indicate that I was in favor of cutting both national spending and business incentives.' I certainly am in favor of cutting national spending—this is my principal campaign contention—but I do favor incentives to increase the productivity of American agribusiness and industry in general, in order to satisfy public demand at reasonable prices.
3. Mr. Helmke’s article stated this, in regard to my purported views on utility rates in Virginia:
“Even though Vepco is charging higher rates, said Robinson, he supports the type of incentive Vepco received from the State Corporaion Commission to raise the rates another 15%. ”
In response to inquiries from the news media and correspondence ' from individual citizens I have undertaken to point out, consistently, that utility rate regulation in Virginia is outside my jurisdiction, and is, in most circumstances, the responsibility of the State Corporation Commission. I have had no opportunity to study the justifications put forward to the Commission in behalf of the v rate increase sought by Vepco, and it has not been my practice to endorse or condemn specific
