Planning District Commission Executive Director Arthur Warren said the Landmarks Commission has become involved in partially funding private historic restoration work to keep a lot of the buildings from becoming parking lots.
Besides the Hill Home, a $750 grant for the preliminary architectural study was approved for the Little Fork Church and $25,000 for the restoration of the Exchange Hotel by Historic Gordonsville, Inc. All the Landmarks Commission grants list the maximum amount of funds available, not the actual amount to be funded.
THE PLANNING District Commission also approved $152,400 in federal funds for the Fauquier Community Action Program for job training, and $28,602 to the Fauquier Senior Citizen Transportation Project. Phillip Irwin’s open space easement of 40 aciges, including “Caledonia” near Flint Hill, to the Virginia Outdoors Foundation was also approved.
The District Commission also approved an application for federal financial assistance for taxiway construction at the WarrentonFauquier Airport.
