Actually, most people who have automobile liability insurance already have the medical payments coverage in their policy. These provisions would not eliminate the right to sue but would remove a great deal of the benefit from bringing suit in these cases.
AN OBJECTION to this approach has been that it would increase insurance premiums for those who do not now have medical coverage in their insurance policies. I do not understand how it can cause as much of an increase in insurance premiums as a no-fault plan which would pay all insured persons in the smaller personal injury cases regardless of fault and regardless of whether they are now insured. Also, under the no-fault proposals the insurance companies would not have the right to recoup the money they paid to an insured person (who was not at fault) by collecting from the party who was at fault in the accident.
I would hope that the no-fault legislation could be written so
