RECENT reports from the United States Department of Agriculture indicate that American Corn growers intend to plant 76.1 million acres of corn for all purposes in 1975, down less than one percent from the corn planted last year. Virginia corn producers are expected to plant one percent more corn, or approximately 755,000 acres in 1975.
The four combined feed grains— corn, sorghum, oats, and barleyplantings are expected to be up one percent over the 1974 plantings. Sorghum growers intend to plant about 19.4 million acres, up 10 percent from 1974. Oat farmers intend to plant 17.3 million acres, down 4 percent from 1974, and barley producers intend to plant 9.4 million acres, eight percent more than last year.

A Lenten Study Program will begin next Tuesday and continue each week until five meetings have been conducted at the Episcopal parish hall in Washington.
The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. and a covered dish supper will accompany it. The program is instituted by the Rev. Jennings Hobson, The Rev. Ronald Wiley and the Rev. Malcolm Maples.
