ALL OFFICES of the Virginia Employment Commission will be open Monday, February 17, although it is an official state holiday, Washington’s Birthday, according to William L. Heartwell, Jr., commissioner of the VEC.

“Although we realize that our employes have been working extremely hard and long in recent months and both need and deserve this holiday, we feel it is more important to do all we can toward helping those Virginians who are unemployed get their unemployment insurance checks,” he said.

Many VEC local offices were open January 20, Lee-Jackson Day, also a state holiday. Employes are also working nights and Saturdays in many VEC offices although the offices are not open to the public, and unemployment insurance staff in the administrative office are working nights and weekends in an attempt
