The regular February meeting of the Washington Town Council which was scheduled this past Tuesday and not completed will be continued next Tuesday night. The meeting, held at the Rappahannock Courthouse, will begin at 7:30 p.m.
A discussion meeting was held Friday night with town residents when trash removal, water rates, obstruction of alleys, a traffic island, and fire insurance rates were among the topics.
An increase in water rates is being considered and council members and the mayor were ascertaining whether to increase the base charge or increase the gallonage price of water above the minimum.
Mayor Kramer had received a complaint about an alley being obstructed to traffic. The complainant, however, did not attend the meeting.
Fire insurance rates in the town will increase if the fire department and the water system are not brought up in standards. A test of hydrant pressure indicated the gallons per minute available are not quire adequate to pass state regulations. The fire equipment is old and needs updating.
