FOR THE second year in a row, a federally funded youth program has provided summer employment for Rappahannock young people who usually cannot find summer jobs because of occupational restrictions created by their age, the overall scarcity of jobs, or because they lack necessary skills. The program, the Neighborhood Youth Corps summer program, is available to boys and girls 14 through 20 years whose parents have a limited income.
A total of 21 Rappahannock youths were enrolled in the NYC program this year as compared to 8 last year. This increase is encouraging because it appears that the community support so vital to this type of program is now being encouraged by various government officials and civic leaders within the county, said a Youth Corps spokesman.
