Mrs. Kathryn Gaines, proprietor of Wits End Craft and Antique Shop at Ben Venue exhibits the tremendous 84 pound pumpkin grown by T.L. Eastham of Ben Venue. Mr. Eastham obtained the seed from Rufus Baines, who said it came from his wife’s mother, Mrs. Allie Baker of Suffolk. Lindsay Eastham told Mrs. Gaines that it would have grown a lot larger if someone hadn’t stepped on the vine and injured it so the pumpkin came off. The cucumber was grown by Mrs. John Sheffield of Viewtown and measured in excess of 20 inches. The season has been good for most vegetation though hay was difficult to make in the early wet season.
