STATE and Federal regulations permit public schools to designate certain information concerning students as “Directory Information.” Information so classified may be released to third parties, including news media, generally without limitation and without written consent of the parent or student, unless the parents (or student, if over the age of 18,)have requested in writing that such information not be released without their consent.
The Rappahannock County School Board has classified the following as “Directory Information” on each of its students; Name of student, aadress, telephone listing, date and place of birth, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, height and weight of members of athletic teams, dates of attendance, and awards and honors received.
