Even such a sturdy conservative as Virginia Congressman J. Kenneth Robinson found it easy to stand up and be counted on the side of saving farmland against the untrammelled ravages of economic exploitation. “Much more than in past generations,” he told his luncheon audience at Culpeper, “we must have a care for the agricultural land which still is in production—which has not been overrun by urban sprawl, industrial complexes or superhighway networks...”
Added Robinson: “A greater land consciousness can bring about better decisions—private and public —as to land use.”
